Darren gets animated on The Cleveland Show on FOX.  In the episode "Jesus Walks," Darren will be the voice of Hunter and fight Cleveland jr. for the heart of a devout choir girl (played by Fergie!). The episode will be full of musical numbers as Hunter confornts Cleveland Jr. for only going to church camp to capture Vanessa's heart. However, Vanessa will turn out to be more than the can handle.

With the help of A.C.T. Young Conservatory alumnus Darren Criss and two-time Tony Award winner Bill Irwin, American Conservatory Theater raised over $760,000 at its 2012 Season Gala, Expect the Unexpected!, which took place Sunday, April 15, at The Regency Center in San Francisco.

More than 400 guests attended this year's Gala, which began with a cocktail reception, followed by a lavish dinner and an original musical production titled Tales of A.C.T.! The production featured A.C.T. Young Conservatory alumnus Darren Criss (TV's Glee, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying on Broadway), two-time Tony Award winner Bill Irwin (the upcoming Endgame and Scapin at A.C.T., Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? on Broadway), A.C.T. Master of Fine Arts Program graduate Patrick Lane (Brian Hawkins in A.C.T.'s world premiere production of Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City), and Betsy Wolfe (Mary Ann Singleton in A.C.T.'s world premiere production of Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City, 110 in the Shade and Everyday Rapture on Broadway) alongside students from the A.C.T. On March 23, Darren will help launch the program at Hamilton High School in L.A., which will feature a one-class-period program that uses pop culture, video, discussion and mock election to teach young people to engage as active citizens in the election process.

“The voting process can be a bit overwhelming and at times confusing, particularly for first time voters,” Darren explained in a statement. “I’m very excited to be a part of such a comprehensive effort that both educates and encourages young people about the importance of their vote.”

The launch of Democracy Day coincides with the passing of the 26th Amendment, which gave 18-year-olds the right to vote.

“Teachers and young people fought hard 40 years ago for 18-year-olds to have the right to vote, and we are excited to offer a program to classrooms around the country that can help high school students exercise that right,” President of Rock the Vote, Heather Smith, said in a statement. “Turning 18 and becoming eligible to vote is a tremendous rite of passage. Junior and senior year of high school is the ideal moment to connect with young people, and give them the tools to become life-long voters and participants in our country’s democracy.”

“We are asking that schools take one day, once a year to bring Democracy Class to their students.”

'Glee' Newcomer Darren Criss Reflects on His 'Dream' Week

It's been one hell of a week for Darren Criss, whose debut on "Glee" Tuesday (Nov. 9) has been followed by Internet adulation, rumors of becoming a regular character on the show -- and his rendition of Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream" is on track to becoming the show's top-selling first week digital release to date.

Glee's 'Teenage Dream' Targeting Big Chart Bow

"When it rains, it pours, man," Criss says, laughing. "'Glee' stuff aside, I'm playing a show on Saturday [at The Mint in Los Angeles] so I'm rehearsing with my band, I'm playing host to a friend this weekend and there's laundry and food and stuff and a lot of shit is going wrong with my apartment."

We are, honestly, keeping Criss up from a nap, so let's address those rumors one at a time: He's not a regular cast member on "Glee" … yet.

"Of course I would love to be on the show as long as possible," he says. "I do love working with everybody and he is a wonderful character. I love what the show stands for and the place it fits in our social pop consciousness. And the end of the day, I trust the creators and I'm happy for the time I've been given. Whatever happens, happens."

And yes, Criss did first audition for the show 2.5 years ago: For the role of Finn, now played by Cory Monteith.

"I was pretty new to Hollywood and they didn't really know my type, but I could have told anybody -- I'm not a football player," he says. "And they were like: 'But you can sing, right?'"

The role of dreamy Blaine -- a gay student at a different school who forms a bond with McKinley High's Kurt, played by Chris Colfer -- was the role that stuck. The fact that the song the character sings in his debut was "Teenage Dream," thrilled Criss.

"I freaked out. I mean, I freaked out," he says. "As a pop writer, I'm a big Max Martin/Dr. Luke guy and if I'm writing for mainstream pop, I use them as reference points, for sure."

Criss's rendition of "Teenage Dream" isn't the first time he's been on the Billboard charts; Criss co-wrote the music and lyrics to "Me and My Dick," a production of the theater group at the University of Michigan, which entered Top Cast Albums at No. 11 earlier this year; his "Human" EP debuted at No. 30 on Heatseeker Albums, and "A Very StarKid Album," named after Criss' production company, debuted at No. 19 on Top Compilations.

"I'm sort of a musical mercenary," he says. "I have a musical theater background, but when I write for myself, I'm a guy with a guitar so I sound like that guy. And my brother is in a really killer band in New York called Freelance Whales and when I play with him. It's our own little electro indie thing."

So at the end of a chaotic week, has Criss had a chance to stop and reflect?

"I attribute the success of the track to so many factors other than myself," he says. "I was the lucky son of a bitch that got to be a part of it."

There’s a fresh face coming to the FOX hit Glee, in the form of the young 20-something Darren Criss.

The star stopped by our On The Red Carpet studios to dish on his role as Blaine, an openly gay member of a rival glee club.

“Its just a bonus that its actually a very cool and interesting role, an actors dream and sort of politlically what it stands for,” Criss told us. “This is a guy that is really empowered and strong through who he is and what he’s all about. So I really hope that fact is a source of positive energy for any kind of youth dealing with any kind of issue.”

“This is the biggest bonus about this character. Even if it wasnt Glee, if it wasnt a major network its so great to see such a strong gay youth character,” he said.

Criss also addressed rumors that he’ll be a love interest for the Kurt on the show, played by Chris Colfer.

“Im more interested in Blaine being a friend and a mentor to Kurt and for the first time having someone in the exact same situation as Kurt,” he said. “At this point in the show most of Kurt’s friensdhips are not as easily relatable as Blaine will be, so thats the coolest part. So we'll see what happens from there.”

Will Glee Newbie Hook Up With Kurt?

Only the good die young, which is why, when Glee's newest castmember, the adorable, amazing, articulate, smart and humane Darren Criss, joked to us that his character Blaine could possibly get bumped off in some kind of surprise cyborg killing spree, we actually got a little worried.

But hey, if the robots don't get him first, could romance with Chris Colfer's Kurt Hummel be in Blaine's future? Here's what the actor revealed:

What can you tell us about Blaine?
The character Blaine himself is such a cool guy, and I really hope he ends up being a really positive role model and source of strength for a lot of people, gay or straight—for any teen, really.

[Blaine's] a guy that is really, he's seen some hardship and where we meet him he's a very strong, collected guy, and he's really analyzed the things that have happened to him and has defined himself because of those things and a lot of the struggle that other characters go through, he's found a way to empower himself through that. Having a character like that show up where we are in the show and where we are in our society is pretty cool.

So to answer your question he's kind of an out-and-proud student at another school, at a private all-boys school called Dalton, and he meets Kurt, befriends him and imparts whatever knowledge that he feels he can benefit Kurt with. And he's just a really cool guy. I mean even if this wasn't my part, I would see this on TV and be like, wow, cool I'm so glad that this is a character that can be present on a show that is as watched.

Can you say if he's a love interest?
I can't even say, I mean, even if I knew. I don't know, my guess is just as good as anybody's and I'm not just being coy, I have no idea. When people ask me this...it's fun to speculate these things—of course, it's always fun to see who's going to get with who—but that doesn't really interest me.

I mean, to me, if you couldn't tell by my enthusiasm about what kind of guy this was, that's the coolest part about this character. Yes, of course, we all want to see Kurt have a love interest of some kind, just because we want to see the good guys get what should come to them—however, I think as a thematic element, I think it's more interesting to me at this point to see Kurt having a role model in someone he can really truly relate to and whether or not that evolves in some kind of romantic relationship, who knows?

It's just cool that [Kurt] has like a friend, a true friend that he can kind of see as a beacon of light for him.

Now do you get to sing and dance?
I'll say yes. I won't tell you to what—and now I am being coy.

Can you say how many episodes you are in?
No, because I don't know! I don't know, and I feel bad because people are asking me and I just don't know, but I wish I did, but we'll see. To me, objectively, I really like this guy Blaine, and even if I had nothing to do with the show as audience of the show, I'd love to see him come back, and do things, but for all I know he gets attacked by giant robots and dies a horrific death.

It's all a dream.
Or maybe not a dream. We don't know where Glee is going. Post-apocalyptic storyline, anyone?

The two meet in the Nov. 9 episode when Kurt, who is fast becoming fed up with life at McKinley High, considers transferring to the nearby Dalton Academy, where Criss’ character is a student. “I think Blaine’s most important role is…as a mentor to Kurt,” says Criss, whose only major pre-Glee TV credit was a stint on ABC’s short-lived Eastwick. “At this point, Kurt’s [sexuality] has been such a sense of discord in his life. Blaine finds [being gay] empowering. He embraces who he is, and sees Kurt [struggling with] the same things that he had to deal with, and I think he wants to impart that knowledge.”

Criss hopes Blaine will serve as a positive role model for viewers as well, given the recent string of suicides among gay youth. “It’s great to see a strong character like this on a hit show that so many people are watching,” he says. “I can’t really think of any other gay characters on TV that are this young and sure of themselves. I hope all the kids struggling with this issue can look to a guy like Blaine and feel [inspired] by his confidence.”

"We can't believe the company we're in. So many of our classmates just could not believe this news. Least of all us. We do think the No. 12 (cast album) must be very confused," said A.J. Holmes, who co-wrote the show's music and lyrics.

The show revolves around a "boy with a very special relationship with his very best friend … his Dick! Together they face the trials of growing up, love, sex and high school, but these two best pals are in for the adventure of a lifetime."
